A wonderful podcast about both current and past astrology news and history. I have been catching up with their shows recently, and really enjoy the presentation of the topics on this show. Know very little about Astronomy? They explain key points very fluidly without stepping out of the current conversation so it doesn’t seem like they are playing catchup for listeners with some knowledge of the subject, but successfully enough to keep newbies from feeling lost.

The little game I like to play while listening is “heard this on Star Trek before” where obviously, growing up in the 80’s, I watched a lot of Star Trek The Next Generation and it rooted a lot of my interest into not only science fiction, but also the real field of Astronomy. But it is very fun to hear the hosts talk about something you may recall from a movie or Star Trek episode and finally go “ahhh, can’t wait to see that episode again with this knowledge”. So, yes, I am a huge dork in the respect.

Seriously though, give them a listen if you have even a small interest in Astronomy, even if it is tied to that as loosely as you liked the Ender’s Game series

I am not talking about the game, itcould possibly suck harder than a blonde with a $200 dollar a day cocaine habit. Nope, I am talking about this trailer. Just gorgeous.

There was nothing more glorious than Summer vacation when I was a kid. Weeks and weeks with no school, no real responsibilities, getting into trouble with friends and by myself. You were probably the same, and also have those fond memories of those times. The beginning of Wormworld Saga captures this beautifully, with some slight twists.

Did you have a hidden crawlspace at your grandmother’s place? Survived a terrible fire that gives you panic attacks every time you see an open flame? Or get transported off to magical world full of evil denizens?

“All Day Samples” breaks down all the samples used in Girl Talk’s latest in real-time as each song plays.

“Girl Talk” is the stage name of Gregg Gillis, a Pittsburgh musician who creates mashups of pop songs. The 2010 Girl Talk album, “All Day”, samples several hundred songs, and Wikipedia users have identified and cataloged most of them. Using that data, I created the player below so you can see what samples are playing as you listen to the album. Enjoy. If you like this, see my site for the previous album, Feed The Animals.

This site is possible because Girl Talk released the album under a Creative Commons license, which allows fans to share and remix it.

For all of you enjoying Girl Talk’s new album ALL DAY, this is a great website and tool in progress that shows the artists and songs being sampled at each moment int he song as it streams the album for you. Great way to find where your favorite bits are from.

Also, for everyone who doesn’t know who Girl Talk is, he is a DJ who, in my very humble opinion, is one of the best mashup artists I have ever heard.

This is the best use of a laser pointer ever . . . it almost made me file it under “educational”

“Sintel” is an independently produced short film, initiated by the Blender Foundation as a means to further improve and validate the free/open source 3D creation suite Blender. With initial funding provided by 1000s of donations via the internet community, it has again proven to be a viable development model for both open 3D technology as for independent animation film.
This 15 minute film has been realized in the studio of the Amsterdam Blender Institute, by an international team of artists and developers. In addition to that, several crucial technical and creative targets have been realized online, by developers and artists and teams all over the world.
