Garage Kit Zombie

August 5th, 2010 by John

Garage Kit Zombie is a site run by a gentleman who builds and paints resin models for the likes of us folks who are dorky enough to want a kickass one, but well, just not talented enough to make it look as awesome as we want! I will be honest, I have no idea what his prices are, but the site is sure fun to look at! Maybe one of these days I will get some Firefly, Aliens or The Thing models done, have them looking super sweet on the edge of my desk, and get all sorts of super sweet poon! OK, so the more likely scenario is I would just have something cool next to me while tossing off to internet porn.

Check out his blog to see some of the awesome works in progress below!

The Geek’s Grimoire Blog

July 31st, 2010 by John

The Geek’s Grimoire is a blog run by a buddy of the show. Check it out by clicking on the banner above. And here is a sample of some of the geekery you should come to expect below:

It all started in a department store.

Pittsburgh, some time in the early 1980s

My brother and I have arrived at (probably) K-Mart. Both of us have fresh allowance money in our pocket, so we head directly to our favorite part of the store: the toy department.

Within moments, we’re in the action figures aisle, searching for the Star Wars figures. Unfortunately, Star Wars is already falling out of favor, and the only action figures that we can find already exist in our collection at home. As awesome as Darth Vader is, we really don’t need a third one.

Immediately adjacent to the Star Wars figures, something new and interesting has appeared. These newcomers are military action figures. They’re a bit different from our usual sci-fi toys, but they are about the same size, so they’ll fit in with our existing armies. After a little deliberation, we each select a toy and head for the checkout.

Little did we know, our young lives had just changed.

Present day

So, what was that pivotal purchase?

Over the next decade, my brother and I would invest a large quantity of our allowance in GI Joe action figures, vehicles, and even the occasional comic book. When the TV show surfaced, we immediately became devoted fans, and our backyard was filled with cries of “Yo Joe!”

My love for GI Joe faded into the fog of memory for quite a while, just as Star Wars had, until the Cartoon Network produced GI Joe Resolute. The cartoon that I had grown up with had grown up as well, and it was good.

Today, I’ve returned to the GI Joe universe. I’m a regular reader of several ongoing GI Joe comic books, I’ve got a handful of GI Joe action figures on my desk, and I’m re-reading the original Marvel Comics series. All because K-Mart was out of new Star Wars figures way back when.

I wonder how different life might have been if they’d had Zuckuss in stock…

Okay, so this has been out there awhile, and I saw it a couple weeks back . . . but I think about it often, and I just have to share the creepiness of it to maybe get it out of my head. Seriously, do yourself a favor if you love weird or creepy things and watch this all the way through.

Ha! Even though I enjoyed the hell out of issue #1 of Shadowland, I feel like this should be adopted into official canon of the story!

Tales of the Geek Lantern Corps – Review of “45″

July 8th, 2010 by John

Our buddy over at Tales of the Geek Lantern Corps has given his two cents about a recent graphic novel called “45″ from Com.x, and just the list of the people working on this comic is impressive as hell! Andy Ewington! Sean Phillips! Charlie Adlard! That not it, there is more (go look at the full list, it is IMPRESSIVE!). Anyways, check out Brian’s review at his site TALES OF THE GEEK LANTERN CORPS!

The meat and potatoes of the comic book world is super heroes stories and while I certainly love that genre, more so than I should sometimes, it just isn’t for everyone. Some people will scoff the idea of taking any story involving super heroes seriously. My recommendation: take those people (and yourself if you haven’t already) and make them read 45, a graphic novel that captures the human side of super heroes better than almost anything out there. Tales of the Geek Lantern Corps

June 26th, 2010 by John

A friend of the show and fellow geek/dork/hardcore homeboy, Brian Lyons (not the Brian we always mention on the show, this one is MUCH MUCH classier) has started up a pretty good blog detailing all aspects of his geekier side! Look for games, comic books, movies and if I get my wish, Huey Lewis and the News tributes to be featured on the site!

There is something magical about the lazy susan he takes photos of his comics/other keen stuff on . . . the wood grain pulls you in, almost hypnotizing you into reading on! I really looks forward to hearing him talk about the graphic novel “45″ (hint hint).

Also, if you can, I highly suggest following it RSS style or now off to the right side is an option to “follow” his blog with one of your social accounts. Not sure if we will add this to our site or not, but it is a great way to keep track and up to date on all the sites you follow that feature this option.
