Lunchbox: Digital Shelf Nov 14th, 2012

I took some time off mainly because I wasn’t really buying much books partially because I was broke and the difference between a single nerd and a married nerd is the single nerd buys his books even when broke and just eats less, but the married nerd just doesn’t buy any books and resents the fact he can’t buy whatever he wants. So I am just going to dive in there is some good stuff to talk about.

As you probably know by now I am colossal mark for this book , but I hope that you take me seriously when I say this book is really good. This is a one-shot that is a small answer to those kids that get twisted over the fact the series just sort of started without a traditional origin story .

Without spoiling anything I’ll tell you that this book established one of the characters by taking you back to 1984. We are introduced to the Jersey Devil which was an awesome story it resolves itself and gives some great back story to the universe. Besides issue #0 this is probably the best book to get you in to Hoax Hunters and hopefully then stick around for the next story arc.

If you like weird stuff and good art even if you don’t stick around this is a great way to spend your money this week. Also a little bonus it has a nice back up story which brings this book pretty hefty size. What are you waiting for expand your horizons and buy this book now.

X-Men Vol 3 #38 $3.99

http://www.comixology.com/X-Men-Vol-3-38/digital-comic/SEP120666

So I don’t have any idea what is going on with this book whether this is a beginning of a run here or a tie-in for the Daredevil book. This issue is all about Domino and Daredevil running in to each other trying to take a mutant loaded casino.

This is insanely entertaining book everything about this book everything about it is a love letter to the 90’s, the art , the jokes, the crazy buddy cop tie-in of two unlikely characters. It should be cliché but I ate this bad boy up I mean I want to make out with this book.

I really am at a loss for words when it comes to explaining this book other than corny and proud of it. What bothers me is I really like Daredevil in tie-ins and one shots but I struggle to get his books on the regular which is too bad.

I’m just dropping two books on you this week trying to ease back in to it. As a bonus though check out the free books this week and try out Ant#1 30+ pages for free check it out.

o why don’t you go ahead and follow us on twitter me @Lunchbox700 and the boys @burntweiners I promise that you will read things you normally don’t see on twitter we are weird guys. Plus we talk about comics sometimes.

Lunchbox Digital Shelf October 21, 2012

Sorry cats and kittens I missed last week mostly because I only read one book, and there wasn’t much material for a wrap up. Alas I’m here this week with a slew of books and my own dry witty self.

Out 10/17/1

Cyberforce #1 free

http://www.comixology.com/Cyberforce-2012-1/digital-comic/AUG120460

This is a book that’s free because of a successful Kickstarter campaign which just warms my gin soaked heart or is that my liver , or I don’t know it makes me all tingly ok. So here is a chance to get sucked in with the first five issues free and available same day as print so it’s a must pick up. I don’t know much about the original Cyber Force but this is a super hero book with a lot of technology and robots mixed in so I’m good for this first few. Plus you know its free you big babies so why even need me to tell you.

Pick of the week 10/10/12

Uncanny Avengers #1 $3.99

Written by: Rick Remender

Art by: John Cassaday

http://www.comixology.com/Uncanny-Avengers-1/digital-comic/AUG120550

Uggh I am turning in to a Marvel Zombie and it’s a runaway train taken hostage by bloated John Travolta and there is no stopping it. Seriously I am the worst kind of Marvel zombie because I preach new ip’s and smaller publishers and these are my picks its shameful. As you know even though I read AvX I did not like it much and was glad it was done because the obligation was over. Then I got this the book was really well done , still some inconsistencies in art but not nearly as rushed as the previous books.

The basic premise is they are building the Uncanny team and looking for it’s leader to help Professor X’s dream live on. Plus there is the subplot of what to do with those X-Men that turned on the world. A good #1 that wasn’t too much origin story trappings and I look forward to the next one to see how it starts to move.

Quick hits

Ultimate Comics X-Men #17 $3.99

Written by: Brian Wood

Art by: Carlo Barberi

http://www.comixology.com/Ultimate-Comics-X-Men-17/digital-comic/AUG120602

This book is in the middle of the United We Stand event I really don’t think this books stands out above the rest or anything its just that I am really liking the Ultimate universe and this a good story line. If you want to know about this issue the easiest way to explain it is Kitty Pryde had her Braveheart moment and business is about to pick up (and a wink to my editor) which makes me excited to get the next issue.

Also an honorable mention out this week is All Fall Down and I’m excited for it because #1 was so good plus it’s only a dollar plus Becoming #3 which furthers my love for Arcana from a few weeks ago. I’ve said it before and I will say it again the beauty of digital is if you see something you like in the store and have the funds just pick it up it reminds of being a kid and just buying stuff off the shelf because of the cover , trust me it’s a lot more fun to be surprised.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf October 6th, 2012

Well here we are , I know I missed last week and that’s mostly because I live in Minnesota and basically in Minnesota from now until may you are either sick, getting sick, getting over sick. Going to mix it up a little this week I’ve got one you have to read and then I am going to highlight some Arcana comics books that you should be trying.

Out 10/3

Danger Club #4 $2.99

http://www.comixology.com/Danger-Club-4/digital-comic/JUN120545

Back after a small hiatus, and I am way to excited for this book. It might end up being the only book I buy this week. I’ve gone on and on for months so you should already be convinced. This issue appears to start answering some questions and also there is some new tensions amongst the groups so I think the cover says it all.

Arcana Comics

All Fall Down $5.99 (full trade price)

Written by: Casey Jones

http://www.comixology.com/All-Fall-Down/digital-comic/AUG110793

So first if you remember I got this book because the premise sounded cool, and it was written by Casey Jones. Yes I am that nerd. The way these Aracana books work is they are full trades that are also releasing as single issues to try out . I bought them as a singles which I think for these books works well it’s nice to have a break between.

The premise here is a 13 year old girl starts receiving all of the superheroes powers after they lose all their powers. The book focuses on the girl (Sophie ) dealing with her new powers, and the rest dealing without powers. The surprising part for me is the art in this book is pretty brutal. It spends a good deal of time dealing with heroes losing powers while using them leading to sometimes gruesome results.

It goes from a superhero book to dark almost gritty pretty quick. It reminds me a lot of the violence in Danger Club which is a good thing. If you are looking for a different powers book this should be it.

Becoming $1.99 p/issue

Written by:Brooke Burgess

Art by: Dane Cypel

http://www.comixology.com/Becoming-1/digital-comic/JAN128022A

I’ve already talked about issue one and two is out now . It’s hard to talk about this book and not be spoilery but basically a college student feels he’s wasting his time and wants to learn about real things. Well he gets what he asks for and it’s not good . After issue two I’m not going to say I know what’s going on yet but I’m hooked. This is a really dense read and be prepared for that but has good pay off with pretty good albeit different artwork.

Philosopher Rex $5.99 (full trade)

Written by: Jason Miller, Ian Miller

http://www.comixology.com/Philosopher-Rex/digital-comic/JUN100743

I have to admit I don’t know what this book is about even after the first issue. It’s about a group of supernatural guardians that protect the world. That’s really all I got even though it’s confusing it’s a fun read and you should give it a try.

That’s all for this week I hope you give some of these books a try and broaden your comic horizons. Remember to stalk us on twitter me @lunchbox700, and our illustrious soiled pants leader @burntweiners

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf September 21, 2012

This is one of those weeks that I write this because I am having a crappy week and making fun of myself and convincing to spend their hard earned money on comics makes me feel much better. Often times I take a look at the list on Monday and I don’t want anything then two days later I blow a bunch of money. I am a comic sellers dream. Easily swayed with no self control.

Out 9/19

All Fall Down #1 $.099

http://www.comixology.com/All-Fall-Down-1/digital-comic/AUG110793A

This is the first of two Arcana books this week that I am highlighting. If you remember I really liked Becoming #1 a few weeks ago also from Arcana. Whenever possible I like to point out books people maybe would miss and Arcana is not a company everyone gives thought to when filling out there orders.

The premise of this book is a 13 year old girl accidentally steals all of the superpowers. The slightly different twist is she is the last superhero and need to learn to control them, and the heroes need to learn to live without their powers sometimes unsuccessfully. Also if you need one last reason it was written by Casey Jones.

Philosopher Rex #1 $.099

http://www.comixology.com/Philosopher-Rex-1/digital-comic/JUN100743A

So here is the deal, and it hurts to admit this I don’t really know anything about this book. I know you’re saying “well we don’t know much about any numbers 1’s “ but I am being quite literal the preview write-up doesn’t help and I’ve seen no preview pages. So why you are you buying this you might say well it’s simple #1, cool name, cool cover. Enough said. I seriously need help because I am a few months away from being stuck in my house eating nothing but Dorito’s tacos and breathing really heavy while eating them.

Pick of the week 9/12

Hoax Hunters #3 $2.99

Written by: Michael Moreci, and Steve Seeley

Art by: Axel Medellin

http://www.comixology.com/Hoax-Hunters-3/digital-comic/JUL120504

I know what you are thinking but I had a hard time picking one this week because most of my books were continuing stories and I couldn’t really pick out one that would be a starting point. I was originally attracted to this book because of the writing and overall story idea. That has become a balance though because the art is becoming quite beautiful and a true extension of the story.

Truly creepy art is not easy but it’s pulled off in this book. There is stuff answered in this book but unfortunately more new questions are asked then answered. I am telling you probably not for the last time if you like supernatural stories, or even investigative type stuff you need this book in your pull. Also one last thing you can #0-3 for only $7 so what are you waiting for.

That’s it for this week I ask that you follow my lead and grab a book you wouldn’t normally give a shot to. Also remember to follow us on twitter me @Lunchbox700, and the show @burntweiners where you get awesome book recommendations and weird out of context sexual harassment between us and anyone dumb enough to join the conversation.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf Sept 13, 2012

Yea buddy I’m back and ready to spend more of your money. This is going to be a short week because I only bought one book which is bad luck because I have been sick for days and don’t have enough sweet comics to keep me busy. Really ideal situation would be one of the ‘weiners just bring me books to read, well that and milk and cookies of course.

Out 9/12

Harbinger #4 $3.99

http://www.comixology.com/Harbinger-2012-4-Digital-Exclusives-Editions/digital-comic/JUL121259

I have been talking up this book for weeks now and I am doing it again. I am really digging this story . Peter is already looking for ways out of the school he just agreed to come to. The thing I like the most is that Peter just keeps getting put through the ringer and you are not getting these simple comic book kind of solutions again I really wish I had a bigger budget because if this book is any indication Valiant has some awesome shit going on!

Also out this week that should be on your radar

He-Man Masters of the Universe #2 $2.99

http://www.comixology.com/He-Man-and-the-Masters-of-the-Universe-2-of-6/digital-comic/JUN120267

I liked the first one but it was really light on story and I hope this one fleshes out a little more. But I have a real concern that the one shots are going to fill the story and I don’t really want to add another book in the fold just to get the story.

Hoax Hunters #3 $2.99

http://www.comixology.com/Hoax-Hunters-3/digital-comic/JUL120504

I am not going to beat you over the head because I already have Michael Moreci is the one that would steal me away from Cullen Bunn these books have been so good if you don’t believe me try out issue #1 for free , and you should be convinced.

Pick of the week 9/05

Hawkeye #2 $2.99

Written by:Matt Fraction

Art by: David Aja

http://www.comixology.com/Hawkeye-2/digital-comic/JUL120588

This is hard to explain , but this book is brilliance. If you are one of those nerds like me that sits in the theatre watching the movie or reading the books and can’t stop thinking about what do these guys do in there free time. Well this book is for you. Hawkeye is hanging out with Kate Bishop , and you start to figure out where all the cash came from last issue.

You see that his life isn’t perfect but he lives a somewhat normal life and not so normal things happen and he has unusual ways to solve these problems. A message to Marvel I would buy a version of this story for almost every character you have. Take my money now damnit because I am in .

There is one freebie this week that you should check out. The Mis-Adventures of Adam West: Ongoing #0  . . . ok honestly do I need to explain why you should get this?

Well that’s it for this week I don’t have any cool ending tying in to other podcasts or poopy pants editors or anything and I mean to be honest I’m only like 60% sure this is all real so hopefully this does go up and it’s not my imagination.

*Editor’s note – Lunchbox was killed in an accidental repeated stabbing. He will not be missed by the editor. Also, I will give you directions on a later post so you may also go piss on his grave.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf August 24th, 2012

It’s that time of the week for comics last week was a little light for me and there wasn’t anything that stood out for me to recommend to everyone so took a little break . There is some good stuff this week and in addition there is some cool freebies you should check out. Justice League Task Force #1 which is a cool glimpse in to the 90’s team book and the glory that implies. The second is Dead Mans Run #0 the art in this book is very cool and the team of Greg Pak, Gale Anne, and pencils by Tony Parker it has pretty good pedigree

Out 8/22

Captain America and Namor #635.1 $2.9

http://www.comixology.com/Captain-America-and-Namor-635-1/digital-comic/JUN120639

I do not read Captain America with the exception of team books he is in, but this one interests me a great deal. First of all it’s written by Cullen Bunn and because of Deadpool kills everyone I am in love with him. The other thing that interests me is this is set in WWII and there is a Kraken what else do you need. The preview pages I’ve seen reminds me of the 90’s and that makes me happy.

Pick of the week 8/15

Harbinger #3 $3.99

Written by: Joshua Dysart

Art by: Khari Evans, Lewis Larosa

http://www.comixology.com/Harbinger-2012-3-Digital-Exclusives-Editions/digital-comic/JUN121326

So I’ve been talking about this book and how good it is for awhile , but I am not kidding around you need to be reading this. Peter is at the school now and abandoned everything he has cared about. Here is the twist is the school giving him control over his powers or just making him more dangerous. The Harbinger foundation is trying to teach Peter but he is not receptive. My only regret is that Valiant is killing it right now and I can’t afford all the books because I want everything. It’s not too late in fact you could almost jump on here or you could pick up the first two issues which are only $3 right now.

Quick hits

Pathfinder #1 $3.99

Written by: Jim Zub

Art by: Andrew Huerta

http://www.comixology.com/Pathfinder-1/digital-comic/JUN121004

This is based on the RPG of the same name , but you don’t need to be interested in the game to enjoy what’s going on here. This is a fine fantasy book that has a lot of good content coming in just under 40 pages. Give it a shot even if you normally don’t read Dynamite books.

Deadpool Kills the Marvel universe #3 $2.99

Written by: Cullen Bunn

Art by: Dalibor Talajic

What needs to be said everyone’s least favorite Marvel character/assassin goes and kills more of the Marvel U. This book is very self referential and doesn’t hide it. Unfortunately I think Sean from The Pulllist Podcast called it already on the ending. This book is all one big fourth wall breaking opportunity to get people to calm down with the nerd rage when stuff changes.

That’s all I got this week a lot of continuing stories but I know there is a lot of DC 0 issues popping up soon and a good time spend lots of money so start saving those quarters your grandma gave you.

Follow me on twitter @Lunchbox700, and follow the podcast @burntweiners lots of good comic talk and immature jokes.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf August 10, 2012

Hello boys and girls no funny self deprecating intro this week , but I do have something to talk about. Mini-series, I really think this is the kind of thing companies should be doing to get people interested in their books. A prime example is Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe , I have zero interest in Deadpool yet here I am loving this book so far and find myself interested in Deadpool. Or how about Spider-Men I have no Spidey books on my regular pull and I hated Miles from the Ultimate book but here I am absolutely loving this book and am sad that it’s ending soon.

Another good example is City in the Desert this is a graphic novel that they split up digitally and I happily plunked down my money, and will probably buy the printed version. Don’t get me wrong events are fine Divided We Fall is great but I was already reading the Ultimates so it didn’t bring in any money. Or how about AvX I am reading this book but I’m getting them for free and it is not creating and desire to pick up other books. These are only a few recent examples and I know that it’s tough to keep your pulllist affordable but it’s a great we to stay fresh four or five issues and it’s gone and then you pick up another mini later.

New 8/08

Hoax Hunters #2 $2.99

http://www.comixology.com/Hoax-Hunters-2/digital-comic/JUN120557

I know really I do you’ve heard enough of this book from me already. I mean I have gushed about 0 issue and the #1 but this book is amazing and this is the issue that you need to read . If you are not drawn in after this one then you are crazy . You get to meet the rest of the team and let me give you the short version. There is a crazy cult , a bunch of dead animals, people who start there heads on fire, and oh yea a big nasty monster. Lets just say shit gets crazy and their are few better ways to spend $3 this week.

8/01 Pick Of The Week

Hawkeye #1 $2.99

Written by: Matt Fraction

Art by: David Aja

http://www.comixology.com/Hawkeye-1/digital-comic/JUN120659

So this book came out of no wear for me but it’s $3 and a number one and I am a sucker as has been established already. This is not what you think it’s going to be. This really isn’t a number one book, and it’s not really a superhero book either because Clint doesn’t have powers.

This is more a story about a guy trying to be normal and things around him aren’t really allowing that to happen. He lives in a crappy apartment and gangsters (awesome gangsters ‘bro) are driving the tenants away but he doesn’t want that to happen even though it appears he doesn’t like his neighbors that much. This is really more of a character book that has some cool action in it. If the rest of the series goes this route with the awesome storytelling, and very detailed yet subtle artwork I am on board for the long haul.

Here is the problem there is usually a second book that’s really good but everything was good this week so here is really quick , quick hits.

Higher Earth #3 , the batshit crazy has ramped up and you get a lot more details but that leads to more questions I enjoyed the book but it felt a little off so we’ll see how #4 does.

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe as I mentioned I had no desire at first but this books is amazing and to steal a quote from The Pulllist Podcast this is basically a horror book, and it’s weekly so jump on board.

Ultimate Comics Spider-man , as I mentioned I do not like Miles as a character , but I am reading the other Divided books, and Spider-Men has made me appreciate him more I suggest jumping in this event it’s short and well written.

Finding Gossamyr Chapter 1 , This book has the most amazing artwork ever , hands down I keep going back to look at it so damn pretty

That’s it kids read more books because a stranger on the internet told you too. Follow me on twitter @Lunchbox700, and follow @burntweiners and listen to the pod and send John good creepy vibes it will make him feel special.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf August 2nd 2012

So the schedule got messed up a little , and you ended up with a late post and then not one for last week. I think you’ll forgive me because we read comics and it’s not the first time a solicit didn’t come out, right ? Lets jump right in and see how much money we can spend.

Coming 8/01

Hawkeye #1 $2.99

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=13108

An unusual pick for me it wasn’t on my radar at all just days ago. Then all of a sudden I am seeing friends have it on there pull list, and it’s a #1, and its not $4 and well I as you know I don’t stand a chance. Seriously how many and’s can I fit in one sentence. This is why I babble on about comics here and don’t get to hang with the big boys on the podcast. Ok sorry weird diversion , I was completely ready to preview Higher Earth #3 which I’ve really been enjoying so far.

Then all of a sudden I checked the preview 1) it’s Matt Fraction and that is always worth a look 2) the cover looks awesome simple yet eye catching 3) the preview pages look real cool , they have a real 90’s kind of look and I know that can make you cringe, but my love for comics was solidified in the early 90’s with books like Fantastic Four so I’m drawn in by the tractor beam, and now so are suckers. Other then rolling with Young Avenger Kate Bishop and that this book is coming because of the movie there isn’t a ton of details, and the movie thing does scare me. But low expectations breeds happy accidents so here I am the hero of low expectations.

Also look out for Higher Earth #3, He-Man Masters of the Universe #2 , Ultimate Comics #13 (part of divided we fall so I will be reading ) , and also back catalog addition Batman Cacophony 1-3 (yes I am a Kevin Smith whore, but I won this collected and will probably pick it up digitally anyways so take it for what it is)

Pick of the week 7/25

Wolverine and the X-Men #14 $3.99

Written by: Jason Aaron

Art by: Jorge Molina (Pencils)

http://www.comixology.com/Wolverine-and-the-X-Men-14/digital-comic/MAY120656

Ok , Ok I know I promised I wouldn’t do this , no more AvX books or tie-ins and I really thought I was done. Well I was wrong and I’m picking this more to prove a point instead of really pointing out a great book because this book is not great. I will start with the art is ok but like almost all of the AvX books and there tie-ins it looks rushed and rushed end up looking like crap digitally so be prepared for that and I know it’s a hard pill to swallow for a $4 book, but unfortunately quality doesn’t always reflect price.

There is good here the book is essentially Kitty Pryde is running the school while everyone else is getting there ass kicked. The school is falling apart and Kitty’s head is exploding so what will break this tension. If you guessed an almost whole issue long date with Phoenix Colossus which ends in tragedy and a little bit of a bright side for the Avengers. The date is awkward like a Criminal Minds episode where the cute girl is kidnapped (so 90% of them).

Also it is incredibly ludicrous but it doesn’t matter it just works in a comic book kind of way . It reads fast and you forget that other disappointment surrounds these books. Don’t get me wrong you should not be buying all of these books, but if you have a natural distaste of tie in events you are missing out on some good issues.

Give them a chance because I am reading in addition to main book this, Infinite, and also Uncanny . To be completely honest the other books all have flaws but the good has outweighed the bad so get off your elitist throne like I did and start slumming it.

That is it for now don’t forget to stalk us on Twitter @burntweiners especially Wednesday’s for awesome follow suggestions, and follow me @Lunchbox700 where you get comics , video games, and endless bitching/loveprofessing about my pets.

Also check out the ThePullList podcast for a little more knowledgeable bloaks then us, and awesome mispronunciations . Also thanks guys for the shoutout last week ;)

Intergalactic – Ken Garing

Here’s a teaser image for INTERGALACTIC, a forthcoming digital only comics series from Ken Garing (Planetoid) & Joe Keatinge (Glory, Hell-Yeah, Thanos). It will published this fall by Chris Roberson’s MonkeyBrain Comics imprint and available through Comixology.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf July 7, 2012

Here we are another week gone by , the patriotism has died down and luckily my dog can sleep through the night without being interrupted by fireworks (which of course so can I) . I hope you spent your holiday burning flesh and reading comics because that is the American way.

Coming 7/11

Spider-men #3 $3.99

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=12892

I know I can’t shut up about this book but I am super excited for it. We’ve met the characters , we’ve established the beginning, there is only three issues left let’s get the crazy on the train. I really hope this keeps going strong because my love for the first two issues was a surprise . Want more do you say I mean this is comics and we always want more. Well let’s how about this issue has an awesome cover, and includes the Ultimates and Nick Fury. I’m sorry can I pay more money for this book?

Yes I know Walking Dead #100 is coming out and honestly that is the only thing that is exciting this week , but you already know that and you need to spend more money.

Pick Of The Week Part 1

Hoax Hunters #1 $2.99

Written by: Michael Moreci, Steve Seeley

Art by: Axel Medellin

http://www.comixology.com/Hoax-Hunters-1/digital-comic/MAY120521

So it’s a two part pick of the week because this book I read more than a month ago and if you follow me on twitter you know I have been babbling about it the whole time. So obviously I got this book for free I mention this because it matters to some people. I love this book !

Ok in all seriousness the book if you haven’t read the zero issue is about a group that puts on a reality show debunking hoaxes about the paranormal. This is all a cover though and they are really investigating paranormal stuff. I know what you are thinking B.P.R.D but that would be unfairly dismissing it,; and honestly there are worse ways to be insulted , but this book stands on it’s own in a way I can not explain in review.

This issue takes us to the Bayou where a bunch of animals are bizarrely getting killed. I rarely read reviews before I write mine but I did this time. There are complaints that the book doesn’t make sense for a first issue (makes more sense if you read #0 or backup stories ) and a case can be made for that. I disagree the book hits the ground running and I can see that the space will be filled in as it progresses . Do not expect a normal #1 which is a nice change because sometimes one’s are really cool but don’t fit in to the rest of the run once it progresses this book will not be one of those.

The art is fantastic and I cannot wait for the rest of the characters to get fleshed out because the writing is very well done. This is a new property that is interesting and exciting and that is the kind of thing that nerds like me complain about all the time so I can’t see a reason to not purchase the book. Want one more reason well even though I already read this book I also bought it because I wanted to support it so get it digitally today or in print on 7/11 at your local shop.

Pick Of The Week Part 2

Danger Club #3 $2.99

Written by: Landry Q. Walker

Art by: Eric Jones

http://www.comixology.com/Danger-Club-3/digital-comic/APR120532

I’m sorry I can write about Hoax Hunters and Danger Club the same week give me second I have to pull the chair away from the desk I can’t fit under it anymore. This is it the beginning of the madness , the battle has begun, and not all of the kids are going to make it. Not only do you get awesome battle scenes which is usually enough but some of the secrets are revealed and they ask more questions then give answers. Also there is a kick in the nuts moment at the end that you need in these books because then you can spend the rest of the time worrying about what’s next .

I read this book twice because there is moments that are a little hard to keep up with, and the art was very good but a little less flawless then previous issues. Reading a book twice isn’t the end of the world though so buy it and read it again damnit. There is no other superhero book on the market like this and I’m happy I’m reading it.

I really could go on and on but I won’t because well I need to go to work make money and spend it on comics and video games, that’s how the world works right , right? Good now convince my wife. Stalk me on Twitter, and listen to the podcast or they start beating me again*.

*Editor’s Note – We never stop beating him

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf July 4, 2012

Here we are independence day and what do nerd like us do ? Read comics of course how can you get anymore American than that. Shit blows up, lasers, fisticuffs, xenophobia America baby. So lets jump right in and get you to spend more money so I don’t feel as lonely.

Coming 7/4

Danger Club #3

What do I need to say to get you to buy this book . It’s good , I love it, you’ll love it too now go buy it. An extra tease though is it appears that this is the issue that starts a real battle and some of the kids are going to get taken out

Double Barrel #2

I talked about the first issue so not a lot to explain here but support Top Shelf’s awesome book with two full stories in one issue for only $2 . From previews it appears that yes you are thoroughly setup now lets get crazy. This is the kind of thing that if you want something different from companies this should be supported.

Pick of the week:

Spider-Men #2 $3.99

Written by: Brian Michael Bendis

Art by: Sara Pichelli

http://www.comixology.com/Spider-Men-2-of-5/digital-comic/APR120606

So this was a tough week to pick it was one of those wonderful weeks were everything was good. I had mentioned before that I was concerned that when Miles became part of the book I wasn’t going to be down on it. I was pleasantly surprised one thing I always like from Spidey books was humor (something that failed often in the films) the humor between Peter and Miles was awesome. Then you throw in Fury and it was gold. If you haven’t read either of these books and currently do not have enough Spider-man in your life go back and get these two issues . I only wish it wasn’t a min-series.

Quick hits:

Ultimate comics Ultimates #12 $3.99

Written by: Jonathan Hickmnan, Sam Humphries

Art by: Ron Garney , Butch Guice ,Luke Ross

http://www.comixology.com/Ultimate-Comics-Ultimates-12/digital-comic/APR120601

I can’t really go on and on about this book because this ended an arc . I will say this it’s the best use of a tumor in a comic book ever, and if this run goes on sale get it immediately . One little complaint a small part of the team just sort of disappears at the end but not a big deal. I look forward to the next one but hard to top this one.

I honestly could go on and on but I’m cutting my self short to prevent you from having to read my nonsense. There’s a good chance that my pick next week will be an all ages book that I didn’t name so warning I’m a little girl sometimes. Also I will be adding a review for Hoax Hunters #1 comes out on the 11th and I have read it. Spoilers . . .  buy it . . .  it’s great.

As always stalk me on twitter because there is a lot less filtered Comic nonsense spewing out of my bulbous head, and listen to the often entertaining podcast because it makes us happy and we have enough angry time.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf June 21 2012

Sorry for being gone last week folks but I had good reason . I was busy so there actually I really was busy and that’s too bad because there was some good stuff last week and I wanted to ramble but instead that info is wedged in my head like a splinter that just doesn’t go away.

Coming 6/20/12

Higher Earth #2 #3.99

http://www.comixology.com/Higher-Earth-2/digital-comic/APR120920

I talked about this first issue which I really liked even though there was some holes , but I am really hoping this one starts to fill in because it’s a cool premise and I willing will shell out my $4 for at least this second issue than we will see where we stand. This issue sounds like it’s the car chase scene and I am down for that.

Avengers vs X-Men #6 Infinite $1.99 (if you redeem the code that came with AvX print #6 you get infinite free just like the first one)

http://www.comixology.com/Avengers-vs-X-Men-6-Infinite/digital-comic/ICO003523

This is a book I am reading more because of self abuse and curiosity than enjoyment but that just makes me like most comic buyers right? The caveat though ;because all comic kids have to justify , is that the first Infinite book was great and created specifically for digital format so if you are reading this one in print give it a try because I am hoping it holds up like the other one.

Pick of the week for 6/13

Spidermen #1 $3.99

Written by: Brian Michael Bendis

Art by: Sara Pichell

http://www.comixology.com/Spider-Men-1/digital-comic/APR120603

I have no Spidey books I read on the reg, and unlike most Ultimate books I didn’t like Spiderman so I decided to give this one a chance. The premise is Peter and Miles worlds intersect and they eventually fight together. This book was written extremely well and tight in my opinion which isn’t always the case for me when it comes to Bendis.

The only things that concerns me is Miles isn’t really a part of the first issue so I still might not like him as the book progresses but it’s a fiver parter and satiates my Spiderman needs so I’m on board and I think you should be too especially since the art works real well digitally. We are getting to the point that books aren’t necessarily made for digital format but it is something considered which is great.

I am not doing any quick hits this week because nothing stands out that needs a long ramble . I will say though check out Ultimate X=Men 13, and Batman Arkham City Endgame which is on #5 this week and has been a great Joker story. Also a reminder Transformers Autocracy ends this week and I just read it and I know have to go change my shorts so hit me up on Twitter @Lunchbox700, and listen to the pod this week because John sucks less and less as time goes on.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf June 6, 2012

I’m back kiddies even busier than before . Crap wait I think I did that time off wrong well too late now because here I am take it or leave it. I haven’t gotten overboard on books the last two weeks but have been getting some quality stuff so that’s what matters right.

Coming 06/06/12

Double Barrel #1 $1.99

http://www.comixology.com/Double-Barrel-1/digital-comic/DIG001508

Why this book well it’s pretty simple and at this point you should know why I want . It’s 120 pages for two bucks of course I am buying it. This is two separate stories One about a washed up high school football star (better be an Al Bundy reference or I’m gonna fricken rage) who finds a portal to the underworld, and another story that is a follow up to Far Arden . I’m interested in the size and I like anything that bucks the normal formula and honestly all comic fans should too.

Pick of the week:

Batman: Arkham City: End Game #1+2 $0.99 a piece

Written by: Derek Fridolfs

Art by: Patrick Gleason (covers) , Jason Shawn Alexander

http://www.comixology.com/Batman-Arkham-City-End-Game-2/digital-comic/DIG001463

This a little bit of a cheat because it spans two weeks but if you are a Batman fan you should read this short series (6 issues) . The premise is it bridges the gap between the Arkham City game and the new Harley Quin Dlc that just cam out. Honestly though you should read this digital only book even if you didn’t play that game. It offers a different plot line and the art is very cool and different. All you really need to know is Joker is dead and you are good to go, because Batshit crazy follows (pun intended ) . I’m in love and only $6 for the run it’s perfect for me and hold little risk if you like the Bat’s.

Quick Hit:

Ultimate: Ultimates #11 $3.99

Written by : Jonathan Hickman, Sam Humphries

Art by : Butch Guice , Leaonard Kirk , Luke Ross , Patrick Zircher

http://www.comixology.com/Ultimate-Comics-Ultimates-11/digital-comic/MAR120562

I have talked a bit about this book before , but here we are again and I want you to walk away with one thought. BUY THIS BOOK. Especially if you are reading a certain other team up, battle book and am a little disenchanted . This is what you need to know the US launched a nuke at the Children , and it didn’t work ( BALLS is all I have to say about that ) so now we overreact and disband and lock up S.H.I.E.L.D. and hope the Children aren’t to mad . Well Tony and Thor have other ideas and we get some cool drama . This book is near perfect good art, good writing, cool characters, and the story makes sense and you care.

I really don’t have much else to discuss from the week I didn’t was real meh on America’s got Powers but I’m still in it just might not have been an issue I wanted it to be . Also a reminder Hoax Hunters #1 comes out next month and if you have a chance you should get it. I have read a review copy of this and its awesome and I hope people read it because I’m real glad it got picked up.

Thanks again kids , and don’t forget to check out the podcast and hit me up on Twitter @Lunchbox700

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf May 24, 2012

So I was going to do a full write up this week since I am taking the next week off , but I am not there are only two things that are sticking out to me right now and that’s what I want to point to you. Now yes I am taking next week off I am busy working the new job, I can’t afford a lot of books this week, and I’m taking a trip with the wife.

Yes I know comic nerd don’t have girls, jobs, takes trips other than cons, or budget concerns I’m a phony well here’s the harsh truth boys and girls that not a comic nerd it’s a myth perpetrated by the evil media. I mean come on who is like that no one I mean ………….hrmm well I guess John from the podcast crew is that way but I swear no one else.

What to look for the week of the 23rd.

Godzilla #1 Ongoing $3.99

Pick of the week

Danger Club #2 $2.99

So I already talked about book one and loved it, but here we are again .This book stuck with me all week like a great song stuck in your head you can’t let go. First the cover is fantastic , portraying Yoshimi going back home as a fugitive and fighting her way out.

You see the kids that think they are going to fix the world with all the heroes gone they are fugitives. Think Batman but the cops are completely useless . I really want this book to succeed because there is a lot of cool themes going on. The art is fantastic I mentioned on Twitter this week (@lunchbox700 ) that the cover and first few pages stick with you and you just can’t let go. Then you have to read it again because of cool stuff you missed like the fact that Yoshimi is real small which makes it that much more fun. Sometimes writers can pop out a great first book but then fade quick, but not here Walker is building a world and I am buying a top floor condo to watch it

That’s it this week there was some good stuff this week another book that I will single out just for a bit is City in the Desert. This is a graphic novel that is releasing in parts digitally and how good is it well I am buying the book when it comes out to that’s how good it is. I really get hooked on Writer/Artist stuff and Moro Rogers made a cool story with art that is not over ambitious but still emotes really well please check it out if you can. That’s this kids have a good one and see you in a few weeks.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf May 16, 2012

Here we are another week and a slightly more positive one at that (heads up AvX is right around the corner, and I can’t promise I’ll stay positive. I am going to do a writeup for this book eventually but a heads up I got a preview copy of Michael Moreci’s Hoax Hunter #1 and it is great. It’s already been solicited for July and fully expect you to add it to your pull list.

Coming out May 16th

City in the Dessert #1 $2.99

http://www.comixology.com/City-in-the-Desert-1/digital-comic/DIG001481

I might be the only one looking forward to this book, but again cheap, #1, lots of pages wins again. This book is about a monster hunter and his assistant are out of the job because all the monsters are gone , or are they. This seems so cool to me and I love stuff that no one else knows about and this Archaia book might be it.

Pick of the week :

Frankenstein Alive, Alive #1 #3.99

Written by: Steve Niles

Art by: Bernie Wrightson

http://www.comixology.com/Frankenstein-Alive-Alive-1/digital-comic/MAR120318

The name alone had me convinced but it turned out to be a good book. A warning this is a large book but some of it is back story at the end of the book. This picks of after the novel, Art by Wrightson 30 years after his previous foray and it is so cool the black and white is perfect for this book. This isn’t the well known version of Frankenstein this is a cast off freak traveling with the circus trying to deal with his inner demons, and his creator trying to kill him with no luck.

There is a lot of words but that’s ok we are all at least semi literate write? I suggest this to most readers but one word of warning this panel work does not work that great in the digital format I loved it but think works better as a print version.

Quick hit:

Ultimate Comics X-Men #11 $3.99

Written by: Nick Spencer

Art by : Paco Medina

http://www.comixology.com/Ultimate-Comics-X-Men-11/digital-comic/MAR120563

This book is not something I’ve read on a regular basis but wanted to get that bad taste out of my mouth from last week. This obviously does not coincide with the current event that shall not be named. The story is not complicated the Sentinels are killing everyone and everyone is trying to defend the normies from them. Mayhem ensues so what else do you need besides ass kickery . This book suffers from a Similar problem as Frankenstein some of the panel work does not work so well digital , but I really dug the story and art so I may be on the bandwagon along with Ultimate Ultimate.

That’s all I have this week pretty simple week for me trying to budget for the likes Danger Club #2 and Americas got Powers #2 which are must haves. Remember kids to listen to The Burntweiners Podcast John and Bo suck less and less each week, and of course Weed rules. Follow me on Twitter @lunchbox700 and tell me I suck. Also remember to listen The Pull List Podcast on Wednesday very supportive and good comic reviews.
