Seth Green Vs. Katy Perry – “Geek and Gamer Girls”

I am one of the few rare, socially crippled people who has not heard Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” (although I’m sure it’s a masterwork of songwriting) — and even if the parody singer’s voice is not exactly pitch-perfect, and even if Katy Perry is undeniably smokin’ hot — I am willing to bet cash moneys that this parody video from Seth Green and Break.com is at least 37.88% better than the original.

Hyperbole and a Half

I’m sick and its past my bedtime, but I cannot stop laughing out loud (yes, actually LOLing) at this blog I just found.

Hyperbole and a Half

The posts exactly describe the predicaments of life with terse wit and hilarious MSPaint illustrations!

Sneaky Hate Spiral: “Sneaky hate spirals begin simply enough. In fact, that is one of the hallmarks of sneaky hate spirals – they are merely the confluence of many unremarkable annoyances…”

World’s Best Relationship Tips: “Another problem in many relationships is that women feel like they have to do all the boring chores and the men just get to go out and ride around on dirt bikes and throw pies at each other.”

This is Why I’ll Never Be an Adult: “…a few times a year, I spontaneously decide that I’m ready to be a real adult. … I sit myself down and tell myself how I’m going to start cleaning the house every day and paying my bills on time and replying to emails before my inbox reaches quadruple digits. Schedules are drafted. Day-planners are purchased. … I prepare for my new life as an adult like some people prepare for the apocalypse.”

OMG OMG WALKING DEAD OMG

Not quite sure what he means by, “We hope to do for zombies what Mad Men has done for advertising.”  umm… okay… How about you just make a badass TV show based on a wicked-awesome graphic novel? That’s all anyone really wants.

Thanks to THE KING OF THE ZOMBIES for this one! (article direct link)

Steve Perry, ThunderCats Writer Murdered

Stephen Perry ThunderCats Writer Murdered

Okay, normally I wouldn’t have posted this, as I just missed the ThunderCats boat growing up; plus, being a girl, probably wouldn’t have been interested… BUT this report is just full of fantastical things straight out of a pulp detective novel.

Rundown of the bizarrities whirling around Steve Perry’s life (and death):

  • They found his van with his severed arm inside!
  • His roommates happened to also go missing when he did, but were found and arrested on “unrelated charges” (uh-huh, sure)
  • He’s 56-years-old, but has a 5-year-old son with a 26-year-old.
  • He also just happened to have cancer.
  • He wrote a 1986 comic which contains “similarities” to James Cameron’s recent film, Avatar.

Wow. I dare you to NOT think of any conspiracy theories surrounding his death.

Book Review: ‘The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks’ by Max Brooks & Ibraim Roberson

Recorded Attacks is a graphic novel offshoot from The Zombie Survival Guide, and it’s REALLY REALLY COOL! The stories pull you in; whether they are based even somewhat in reality or completely conjured up in Brooks’ overactive imagination, they seem easily believable… like rumors from the next town over that can never be verified.

The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks (Max Brooks, Ibraim Roberson)

The illustration artist is Ibraim Roberson, who’s style is absolutely fantastic! There is a very fine line to walk when illustrating zombie fiction, between too humorously cartoon-like and over-the-top gore-for-the-sake-of-gore (and shock value). Roberson’s style is perfectly balanced in this book; lifelike enough to be believable, while the grotesque horrors are precision-tuned to turn your stomach without completely overpowering the underlying ideas. Top notch stuff!

I would recommend this book for even the pickiest of zombie genre snobs! It’s also great for the weekend zombie enthusiast, your teenage sibling, conspiracy theorists, your undead grandma, or anyone who appreciates the relevance of zombies in the arts. Final grade: A (for Awesome)

Huh?! Survival of the Dead?!

Why did no one tell me that George A. Romero was making another movie?! By the looks of the trailer, it will be filled with fantastical zombie killing scenes, as I have come to expect from Romero’s zombie flicks. Have I not mentioned how awesome the zombie death scenes were in Diary of the Dead?! Made the whole movie, if you ask me. You can watch the official trailer for Survival of the Dead and see for yourself just a taste of what I’m talking about:

Some people say that the “of the Dead” series has become drawn out and cliche, but I say: “NEVERRRRR!” (and shake my fist in the air). Romero’s continuing saga never fails to entertain me. I mean, COME ON! The guy’s been doing this for OVER 40 YEARS! It’s no wonder he has devised some of the most original and creatively theatrical ways to kill zombies that I’ve ever come across in the various forms of zombie media.

This, along with the fact that I personally enjoy Romero’s directorial style, has me all excited for Survival of the Dead, and I will most certainly be purchasing the DVD (to add to the collection). I would also go to see it in the theaters, but I expect it will be limited release, which means it probably won’t be in any theaters around here… we’ll see what happens this Friday (May 28). Otherwise I may have to wait until August 24 for the DVD release!

If you’re interested, you could actually watch Survival of the Dead right now on Amazon’s V.O.D. service… but it’ll cost ya… $9.99 to be exact. I’m not sure if it will still be available once the film is released, or up until the DVD release, so get while the getting’s good!

‘Iron Man 2′ segment on NPR

Neal Conan weinered-it-up on NPR’s Talk of the Nation today in a short, but somewhat in-depth, discussion with NPR’s resident comic book blogger, Glen Weldon on the topic of the recently released Iron Man 2 movie. I had no idea that one of my favorite talk radio hosts is a self-proclaimed comic book geek!

Listen to the 16 minute “podcast” on NPR’s website:
‘Iron Man 2′ Full Of Easter Eggs For Fans

When Neal quips, “I don’t read a lot of capes,” I literally laughed out loud. Another fantastic highlight is toward the end when one of the callers mentions that he now knows what was in the much sought-after briefcase in Pulp Fiction. Ha!

Alan Moore audio/visual project: “Unearthing” Box Set

Available for pre-order from Lex Records, £50.00

Unearthing is an audio and visual project uniting legendary comic book writer Alan Moore, award-winning photographer Mitch Jenkins and a cast of high-caliber musicians. A bewitching story written and narrated by Moore set against an epic score from musicians including Adam Drukker & Andy Broder (aka. Crook&Flail) Mike Patton, Stuart Braithwaite, Zach Hill and Justin Broadrick.

Alan Moore is best known for his groundbreaking graphic novels The Watchmen, V For Vendetta, From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. These, along with work for 2000 AD and DC Comics, have established him as one of the most influential and important writers in the history of comics. His output has sold in the millions, lead to numerous awards and been adapted for feature films – Moore has even made a cameo appearance in The Simpsons.

The musical score for Unearthing is produced by Crook&Flail, a partnership between Andrew Broder and Adam Drucker. Broder is the multi-instrumentalist behind the band Fog whilst Drucker’s adventures under his Doseone solo guise – and within cLOUDDEAD, Themselves and Subtle – have seen him explore spoken word and the outer reaches of rap. Together the pair have enlisted an impressive array of talented collaborators, including; Stuart Braithwaite of Scottish post-rockers Mogwai, drummer Zach Hill from acclaimed experimental band Hella, the trailblazing and prolific Justin Broadrick of Napalm Death, Godflesh and Jesu and pioneering alt-rock hero and Faith No More frontman Mike Patton.
