Intergalactic – Ken Garing

Here’s a teaser image for INTERGALACTIC, a forthcoming digital only comics series from Ken Garing (Planetoid) & Joe Keatinge (Glory, Hell-Yeah, Thanos). It will published this fall by Chris Roberson’s MonkeyBrain Comics imprint and available through Comixology.

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf July 21, 2012

Well kids I am going to save you some time this week . There is only one book last week that stands out, and one book this week that stands out. Don’t get me wrong there is cool stuff out there but sometimes you read your stuff and there is one thing that dominates your thoughts and that’s where I’m at now.

Out 7/18

Danger Girl/G.I.Joe #1 of 4 $3.99

http://www.comixology.com/Danger-Girl-G-I-Joe-1-of-4/digital-comic/MAY120432

I am a sucker for a good description and special events. I’ve heard a lot about Danger Girl and I am an 80’s kid so what else could I ask for. Here is the thing I’ve read the preview description, and the title caught my eye . So in the end this could be a real piece of crap. One last thing this was in the description:Spies!Girls!Ninjas!Cobra! well its official I am a mindless drone but one that well entertained.

Pick of the week 7/11

Harbinger #2 $3.99

Written by: Joshua Dysart

Art by : Khari Evans, Ian Hannin

www.comixology.com/Harbinger-2012-2/digital-comic/MAY121313

A very wise man on a very awesome podcast that may or may not be hosted on this website commented on a Valiant releasing a few really good books and this is one of them. I have to admit that I did not pay attention to Valiant before I was told of this book . The premise of the book is there is a kid that has the ability to put thoughts in to people’s heads. Little does he know he is not alone with these powers and he has even more dangerous powers also. He is traveling with another runaway with a serious mental condition and both of them self medicating just to get by. He returns to his old neighborhood and uses his powers to convince a crush from his past to fall in love with him.

His bliss is interrupted by a talking dog and S.W.A.T. team so a normal day. I am not going to spoil the end but Dysart has written this book so well . It leaves you upset by the choices at the end and it has the real quality of there was not a good choice there was just varying degrees of nut punches. I am in for the ride on this book and don’t see me dropping it anytime soon.

There is a book out in print this week called Finding Gossamyr if you see this book buy it. Without a doubt the most beautiful book all year.

One last note my Comic obsession didn’t take long to manifest I keep all my issues on my Iphone and then dwindle the list down on my Kindle or Ipad . Well last week my Comixology file is bigger than my music file and that is from March so I’m scared to see where I’ll be come next March.

That’s all this week kids don’t forget to listen to Burntweiners & The Pull List Podcast, and of course stalk us on Twitter @Lunchbox700, and @burntweiners

At the funeral of a mysterious and enigmatic gentleman, newly-wed Zelda Mist mourns for the husband she never knew, for Thaddeus Mist kept a life-time of secrets. In her grief she approaches each funeral guest to discover details of the strange life he lived.
As they each tell the tale of Thaddeus Mist their flawed memories and individual imaginations shape their stories into mundane fictions and fantastical truths. These accounts disgust, scare, entertain, and inspire her in equal measure, but it falls to Mrs. Mist to decided which version of the tales was the one lived by her late husband. So… Who On Earth Was Thaddeus Mist?

Accent UK Empirical Picture Books are proud to present their first fully collaborative graphic novel, collecting the best of emerging UK and US talent including:

Burnt Weiners Episode 122 Space Punisher – Eerie – The Crow

[podcast]http://traffic.libsyn.com/burntweiners/Burnt_Weiners_Episode_122_Space_Punisher_-_Eerie_-_The_Crow.mp3[/podcast]

Bo & John rejoice as Weed rejoins them and they all join hands and spin in circles, laughing and dancing until they all fall into love with each other. The love triangle that follows destroys the entire west coast, making Bill Hick’s dream of Arizona Bay a reality. This is also the part where it is mentioned they read some comics because that tired old addon never stops being funny  . . .  *cough*

Awwwww yeah! The Weiners enjoy getting their drink on, and so does Bobgar! So much so that Bob dedicated an entire web comic to activities of consuming alcohol! Check out some of the strips below and see the rest here

Bob is a member of the Earth 2 Podcast crew and one hell of a nice guy, but don’t tell him that we said that . . .

Tim Seeley + Mike Norton + Horror = REVIVAL!

This comes out to comic shops today . . . . I read it already and it is disturbing, creepy and a great addition to my growing collection of horror comics. Give it a flip through, some gorgeous art in the book.

“Revival is … rooted in psychological horror — the fear of what happens to us when we die, the fear of not being sure if we can trust those closest to us,”- Tim Seeley

Lunchbox: Digital Shelf July 7, 2012

Here we are another week gone by , the patriotism has died down and luckily my dog can sleep through the night without being interrupted by fireworks (which of course so can I) . I hope you spent your holiday burning flesh and reading comics because that is the American way.

Coming 7/11

Spider-men #3 $3.99

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=12892

I know I can’t shut up about this book but I am super excited for it. We’ve met the characters , we’ve established the beginning, there is only three issues left let’s get the crazy on the train. I really hope this keeps going strong because my love for the first two issues was a surprise . Want more do you say I mean this is comics and we always want more. Well let’s how about this issue has an awesome cover, and includes the Ultimates and Nick Fury. I’m sorry can I pay more money for this book?

Yes I know Walking Dead #100 is coming out and honestly that is the only thing that is exciting this week , but you already know that and you need to spend more money.

Pick Of The Week Part 1

Hoax Hunters #1 $2.99

Written by: Michael Moreci, Steve Seeley

Art by: Axel Medellin

http://www.comixology.com/Hoax-Hunters-1/digital-comic/MAY120521

So it’s a two part pick of the week because this book I read more than a month ago and if you follow me on twitter you know I have been babbling about it the whole time. So obviously I got this book for free I mention this because it matters to some people. I love this book !

Ok in all seriousness the book if you haven’t read the zero issue is about a group that puts on a reality show debunking hoaxes about the paranormal. This is all a cover though and they are really investigating paranormal stuff. I know what you are thinking B.P.R.D but that would be unfairly dismissing it,; and honestly there are worse ways to be insulted , but this book stands on it’s own in a way I can not explain in review.

This issue takes us to the Bayou where a bunch of animals are bizarrely getting killed. I rarely read reviews before I write mine but I did this time. There are complaints that the book doesn’t make sense for a first issue (makes more sense if you read #0 or backup stories ) and a case can be made for that. I disagree the book hits the ground running and I can see that the space will be filled in as it progresses . Do not expect a normal #1 which is a nice change because sometimes one’s are really cool but don’t fit in to the rest of the run once it progresses this book will not be one of those.

The art is fantastic and I cannot wait for the rest of the characters to get fleshed out because the writing is very well done. This is a new property that is interesting and exciting and that is the kind of thing that nerds like me complain about all the time so I can’t see a reason to not purchase the book. Want one more reason well even though I already read this book I also bought it because I wanted to support it so get it digitally today or in print on 7/11 at your local shop.

Pick Of The Week Part 2

Danger Club #3 $2.99

Written by: Landry Q. Walker

Art by: Eric Jones

http://www.comixology.com/Danger-Club-3/digital-comic/APR120532

I’m sorry I can write about Hoax Hunters and Danger Club the same week give me second I have to pull the chair away from the desk I can’t fit under it anymore. This is it the beginning of the madness , the battle has begun, and not all of the kids are going to make it. Not only do you get awesome battle scenes which is usually enough but some of the secrets are revealed and they ask more questions then give answers. Also there is a kick in the nuts moment at the end that you need in these books because then you can spend the rest of the time worrying about what’s next .

I read this book twice because there is moments that are a little hard to keep up with, and the art was very good but a little less flawless then previous issues. Reading a book twice isn’t the end of the world though so buy it and read it again damnit. There is no other superhero book on the market like this and I’m happy I’m reading it.

I really could go on and on but I won’t because well I need to go to work make money and spend it on comics and video games, that’s how the world works right , right? Good now convince my wife. Stalk me on Twitter, and listen to the podcast or they start beating me again*.

*Editor’s Note – We never stop beating him
