By now, if you are a comic book fan, you probably have heard that Mark Waid is selling off his comic collection to fund his move into the digital comics realm. If not, no biggie, here is the basic jist of it: printing comics is expensive. So expensive that it is very hard for independent creators to release a new comic book and expect to turn a profit. Hell, for some, it is a goal just to break even. That is not good for creators, fans or even comics in general. So, cut out the printing portion (at least until the project has turned to be proven successful), and that makes it much more viable. Other creators have been doing it, but Mark Waid is the biggest name at this point to throw his hat into the ring, and seems to have a model in mind that others are taking notice of.
Am I for this? Hell yes I am, and I am an avid print fan (and I do buy a few things here and there on digital). I am not gonna go into much more detail, you don’t need me to convince you, and in fact, I doubt I could. What I do want to do is make sure you at least check out the free comic offering from Waid’s website showing off what he can do in the digital realm with other talented creators.
So click the gore-tastic image above to get taken to Mark Waid’s website where you can download the story of Luther for free. It’s good. I promise. You can even print it out if you want.
