Weiner Roast: More Favorites from 2010 Part 3
Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson bring a wonderful group of creatures together to solve the problems of a supernatural nature in the the area of Burden Hill. Being sworn in by the Dog Society, a group of dogs, and a few cats, swear to protect their homes and their people from witches, golems and other evil magicks that seem to spring up in their area. Wonderful characters and gorgeous, watercolor painted artwork bless the pages inside of this hardcover.
A slight bit of warning about the series, this may be something you want to purchase for your kids, but there is blood, death and something on occasion you might not ant them to see. I personally find it appropriate for many children I have met, but I am also not their parent, so please use judgment in deciding. As for you, there is no excuse for you not to pick up this terrific collection!
If you think Conan is the only thing Robert E Howard did that is worthwhile for you to read, then you would simply be wrong (in my opinion). A brutal, violent tale of revenge from a great warrior, Cormac, and was one of my favorite books of the year, and really caught me off guard. I was not expecting to like this as much as I did, but Hawks of Outremer is a homerun.
Nazis in fiction are always evil, no exceptions. They are the type of men who would exploit a little girl without batting an eye. Especially a little girl who can control others with a single drop of her blood. So what happens when that little girl starts exploting the Nazis?
Wrapping action, adventure, a murder tale, and a huge, centuries spanning story arc, I AM LEGION is a great tale from the folks at Humonaoids. John Cassady provides the artwork, and if you are a fan of his and missed this somehow, make sure you check it out, as it is just beautiful in this book.
The buz around this book was huge, and it lived up to that hype and then some. Combining the western genre with horror, supernatural threats seems to come so natural for the creative team of Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt (the guys love doubling the last letter of their last name). Intricate and lush artwork make this epic story a must read every month!
