Rowdy Roddy Piper Fight Childhood Obesity – Funny Or Die

I was waiting for the scene where a kid took up smoking and he put it out with a fire extinguisher . . . Piper changed my life with that move!

Burnt Weiners Episode 044 Thor #615

How many “though are” lines can they cram into one book? The Weiners hope to find out. Catching up with the new creative team of Matt Fraction and Pascal Ferry’s Thor, the guys check out a comic that they are not really familiair with. Will they enjoy this trip into the unknown?

Bo finds he likes chainmail bikinis more than just wearing them and checks out Queen Sonja, decides he likes Daken much more than his old man Logan with Dark Wolverine, and checks out the penultimate issue for 1 Month 2 Live.

Weeddecides that if he has to come in here one more time he is gonna bust some skulls and checks out Skullkickers! He then moves over to Marvel to check out some Shadowland tie-ins for Moon Knight and Daughters of the Shadow. Then a spooky, haunted tank and it’s commander give him a good fright in GI Combat.

John laments about the Wildstorm closing news, and gets even fatter on bon bons.

CONTEST WINNER!!!!!

Some will say it is rigged . . . others will say they didn’t know or care about it . . . still others will same something about how they wish they never would have given us their phone number; but alas, this is not important as we have a winner of our very first contest! We asked people to write in with “Stuff They Wish To Be Other Stuff” entries, which means what TV show/Movie/Videogame or other media they wish to see made into a comic book.

Brian, AKA Geek Lantern took up the call and did such. And his was chosen from a sea of entries (can 3 be a sea?). Check Below:

To members of the Burnt Weiners Think Tank:

Not sure if any of you have seen the the two seasons/volumes of this show but it would be awesome if Sleeper Cell was made into/continued in comic form. Kind of started thinking about this when Buffy and Angel were continued in comics and would love Sleeper Cell to make an appearance. The first reason it needs to be stuff that used to be other stuff, it ended on a cliff hanger. Imagine Star Wars ending not continuing after “The Empire Strikes Back”, sure it would have ended before we got some crappy stuffy like ewoks but you would not have gotten that sense of resolution from Return of the Jedi. Without spoiling Sleeper Cell for those of you who haven’t seen it, the second volume (American Terror) ends with him in quite a precarious situation. Reason #2 it needs to be in continued in comics, it was a great story with interesting characters!  Basically the show follows practicing Muslim/government agent Darwyn Al-Sayeed (played by Michael Ealy) as he infiltrates terrorist sects uncover to stop their acts and track down the higher ups. While the comic wouldn’t feature the actor who brilliantly portrayed these characters, in the hands of a good writer and artist combo I could see the book going very far. Last reason, they would no longer have to worry about a budget. With no special effects costs to worry about besides the artist, so much more could be done in the way of fight scenes and explosions. Just imagining the kind of things they could do gives me a rise in my levi’s!

Love Always,
The “Other” Brian (Geek Lantern)

What does he win? Well, he wins some old clothing provided by Steege, or possibly some sock puppets (oh, and we will be throwing in something a little extra to sweeten it all up). Are you insanely jealous? You should have entered. Do you not care? Then why are you reading this?

Never say no to Panda!

The stare the Panda give in the hospital scene is scarier than anything I ever saw in Exorcist!

Beautiful Seatbelt Advocacy Commercial

We at Burnt Weiners are not always a serious bunch. But when I got a look at this commercial it really jumped out as something extraordinary . . .

Burnt Weiners Episode 043 Unwritten #17

How did Lizzie Hexem actually come to help Tom Taylor? That is the question to be answered by Unwritten #17, but it might not be the same answer for everyone, as the book is in CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE style! Did it work for a series that is not afraid to take chances?

Weed checks out a whole slew of comics including Brightest Day #10, Marvel Universe vs Punisher, DV8 #6, Joe Barbarian, Birds of Prey, Morning Glories, & Hack Slash. He also has a chance to see BOSTON MARRIAGE (after his NYC Marriage).

Steege lets us know of a comic book called Rex Manitu put out by a local artist, and checks in with the comic book version of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time. John is still very excited about 1 Month 2 Live and is loving the war comics this month from DC Comics. Bo crushes on Batman before moving onto Hawks of Outremer, Widow Warriors and Kodiak.

“Guns of Shadow Valley” Web Comic

Banner

Ran across this gem of a web comic and I am not so sure how I missed this for so long . . . BUT IT IS TERRIFIC!

From their page:

Somewhere in the mysterious Shadow Valley lies a secret that could forever change the face of the frontier. To protect that secret, a posse of gunmen with special abilities must come together and defend against a tribe of ghostly warriors, an advancing army led by a deranged Colonel, and the perils of the valley itself.

Sounds good, right?

Bad ass page layouts and sweet art, right?

So why are you still here and not checking out already? In all seriousness, this comic scratches an itch for me, as I wish there were more badass Western themed stories out there (yes, I read Sixth Gun, Loveless and Lone Ranger). The page layouts are gorgeous and eye catching, and I spend awhile scoping out all the little details they cram into the nooks and crannies.

It’s free (like Freakangels), so right there is a great reason to go sample it. Okay, if you don’t go check it out by now, I don’t know what more I can do . . .

World Clock

Okay, you know the drill, tells you all sorts of statistics as they are “happening”. Just fun to check it out and see how many chickens are meeting their demise every minute . . .

Left 4 Dead Comic

Valve once again continues with the tremendous fan service it is known for, this time releasing a free 4 part comics series on the internet for the month of September! Click the link above to go check it out! I am really digging the artwork, and as far as a comic based on a video game, it is pretty good, but it might also be because of the nature of the game makes it so easy to translate into a decent comic book with very little effort.

It seems to happen just shortly before the DLC for Left 4 Dead II known as “The Passing” in which the survivor group from the second game meet up with the group from the first game. And yes, it seems like it is going to explain exactly what happened to Bill . . .

Tales from the Parents Basement

http://www.talesfromtheparentsbasement.com/images/banners/tales_sig.jpg

As you are not listening to enough comic podcasts, let me suggest another one, this one being Tales From The Parents Basement (click the pic above to be taken to their site). Earlier today I stumbled across their site in a search for something else, and was scrolling around on their site when I see they interview Phil Hester and Fiona Staples, some of my favorites in the comic book world. Check out the show . . . it is good, folks!

Fun interviews, shows with a good amount of energy (although not so over the top you want to strangle people), and a pretty slick web page design all make for an appealing visit . . . but wait . . . they have forums . . . and they seem pretty damn full of comic book lovers!

Think I found a new place to stop on the net and a new show to listen to each week. Just do yourself a favor and go over and a tleast check out some of the covers (like the one below) they use for an episode teaser . . .

Burnt Weiners Episode 042 1 Month 2 Live #2

Weed is gone . . . and all the Weiners make frowny faces. On the bright side, they are just an audio podcast, so you don’t have to see their sad (and ugly) mugs, just hear their grating voices! They chose to use those voices to talk about the September Marvel series of 1 Month 2 Live! What did they think? I forgot, you better check it out and find out for yourself.

The Weiners are joined by the lead singer of Beneath the Surface as Steege talks about the book Zero History and playing some Diablo 2. Bo can’t find the words to describe Wolverine #1 (Marvel), where Logan finds himself in hell, but then won’t shut up about The Tick(New England)! John is excited about Lucid (Archaia), Weird War Tales (DC), the wrap up of Daytripper (Vertigo) and Last Days of American Crime (Radical)!

One more week for our t-shirt contest! see our website for details.
